Noted the recent passing of a former Superintendent of the Campbell Jr/Sr High School with a request for doations to a scholarship for the merged Savona-Campbell schools. His wife Grace retired from East High in 1971.

Ernest L. Risley

CAMPBELL, NY | Ernest L. Risley, age 93, of Clawson Drive, Campbell, NY, died Friday, November 14, 2003 at The Waters of Three Rivers.

He was born in Thurston, NY, August 9, 1910, the son of Austin and Florence Frances Risley.

He was a graduate of Haverling High School and Geneseo Normal School.

He received his Bachelor's Degree of Science from Buffalo State College and his Master's in Administration from Syracuse University.

Mr. Risley's teaching career started at the one room school house, District 6 in Thurston then two years in Hornby and then continued teaching at the Campbell Jr. and Sr. High School Science and Administration, retiring as Superintendent in January of 1972.

Mr. Risley coached basketball and baseball at the Campbell Central School and the Athletic Fields 'Risley Fields' at the Campbell High School were dedicated to him. He was also the First inductee to the Campbell-Savona Wall of Fame in 2002. He was a member of the NYS Retired Teacher's Association, the Savona Masonic Lodge, a Charter member and Past President of the Campbell Lions Club and an active member of the Republican Committee. He was Past President of the Steuben County Administrator's Association and President of Hope Cemetery Association for 11 years.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Grace Risley of Campbell, his brother, Edward (Martha) Risley of Interlaken, NY, his nieces and nephews, Ronnie Risley of Campbell, NY, Judy (David) Woythal of Lindley, NY, Kim (Frank) Koutnik of Tallahassee, FL, William (Terry) Risley of Liverpool, NY, Carol Hughes of Charleston, SC and Betty Ann Hughes of Scotia, NY and his sister-in-law, Ruth (James) Moyer of Ellenton, FL. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Alfred Risley.

A Memorial Service was held at Fagan's Funeral Home in Bath on Saturday, November 29, 2003 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Clifford Whitehead officiating.
